Dana King, Jr., of Valley Stream, pleaded not guilty to one count of manslaughter and two felony assault counts on Tuesday in Nassau County Court. King is charged for his role in the death of Jim Hayes on March 19.
Police said that there was a dispute between King, Hayes, and a 21-year-old woman in Valley Stream that led to a five-mile high-speed, road-rage chase that took them onto the Southern State Parkway for a stretch and ended with King’s Audi rear-ending Hayes’ BMW, which crashed into a fire hydrant and tree on Baldwin Road in Hempstead.
Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was hospitalized with injuries that left her in critical condition.
King remains free while awaiting trial. His bond is listed at $500,000. A Temporary Order of Protection was also issued on behalf of King’s victim. No return court date has been scheduled.
